A Masterpiece of the Cremonese School. Beauty, Character and an Extraordinary Sound.

New violin, model Guarneri del Gesù “Lord Wilton”, crafted by the prestigious Cremonese master luthier Stefano Trabucchi.

This is an instrument that brings together some of the most admired qualities of the great Italian tradition: outstanding craftsmanship, fascinating aesthetic character and acoustic qualities that remarkably evoke the distinctive sound of the great Guarneri del Gesù violins.

From the very first encounter, this violin captivates with its exuberant beauty. Its elegant outline, distinctive form, richly figured tonewoods and the depth and warmth of its varnish create an exceptionally striking visual presence. Maestro Trabucchi recreates the unmistakable character of the original with remarkable sensitivity, faithfully capturing its proportions, distinctive lines and the unique freedom of design that made Guarneri del Gesù one of the greatest geniuses in the history of violin making.

Its craftsmanship is equally outstanding. Every detail reflects the knowledge, precision and sensitivity of a master who possesses a profound understanding of the secrets of the Cremonese tradition. The selection of the tonewoods, the carving, the meticulous finishing and the remarkable harmony of the overall instrument are all testament to the highest level of craftsmanship.

Yet it is undoubtedly when played that this instrument reveals its full personality. Its voice possesses the characteristic combination found in the finest Guarneri violins: depth, harmonic richness, power and extraordinary projection. A broad, warm and enveloping sound, with remarkably rich, resonant lower registers and luminous, expressive upper tones. Its response is lively, immediate and sensitive, offering the performer a wide palette of tonal colors and great expressive freedom.

These sound qualities evoke the character of the historic original, making this instrument an especially appealing choice for the violinist seeking a voice with personality, nobility and genuine carrying power.

The Historic “Lord Wilton” Model: A Guarneri del Gesù Legend

The model inspiring this extraordinary creation originates from one of the most celebrated violins by Bartolomeo Giuseppe Guarneri, known as del Gesù, crafted in Cremona in 1742.

The original, known as the “Lord Wilton”, takes its name from one of its earliest documented owners, Seymour Egerton, 4th Earl of Wilton. However, it achieved extraordinary international recognition through its ownership by the legendary violinist Yehudi Menuhin, who acquired it in 1978 and made it one of his most iconic instruments.

Regarded as one of the great masterpieces of Guarneri del Gesù's late period, the “Lord Wilton” magnificently embodies the Cremonese master's creative freedom and bold approach to construction. Its imposing outline, broad and vigorous curves, characteristic asymmetrical sound holes and powerful aesthetic personality make it an absolutely unmistakable model.

Its sound has also contributed to forging its legend: a voice of extraordinary power, depth and richness, capable of combining great tonal nobility with exceptional projection.

Stefano Trabucchi: Tradition, Mastery and Cremonese Excellence

This instrument bears the signature of Stefano Trabucchi, one of the distinguished representatives of contemporary violin making in Cremona. Trained at the prestigious International School of Violin Making in Cremona and established in his own workshop since 1992, Trabucchi has built a career defined by his respect for the classical Italian tradition and his profound dedication to the art of crafting string instruments.

His work reflects an exceptional understanding of the great historical masters, combined with a personal sensitivity that is evident both in the beauty of his instruments and in their acoustic qualities.
